Quality Fuel

Wholesome foods, fiber, protein, and healthy fats power better focus.

Optimal Performance

Balanced nutrition supports emotional regulation and calmer days.

If I was to build a racecar, I would want all the components to be of the highest quality. The steering, the suspension and the brakes would need to be finely tuned to maximize the handling and ride. Most importantly, if I had a high-performance engine to power that race car, I would put nothing but the best quality fuel in the tank.

If I went to the trouble of building the race car of my dreams and put low quality fuel in there, I should not be disappointed if the car was not a contender. To go to all that effort and then to not give the finely tuned engine the fuel it deserves, and needs would be ridiculous.

Don't expect the engine to run optimally if the fuel is of poor quality.

The Rising Tide of ADHD & Anxiety

There has been a startling increase in both Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and anxiety in the pediatric population over the past 10-15 years. The pandemic accelerated trends that were already underway.

0

Years of Increase

Rates have been climbing even before the pandemic, which worsened things exponentially.

Multiple

Contributing Factors

Technology, genetics, and nutrition all play significant roles in how children feel and function.

Why Is This Happening?

Technology & Screens

Social media and constant screen time are frequently implicated factors.

Genetic Factors

Hereditary predisposition influences ADHD and anxiety susceptibility.

Diet & Nutrition

The often-overlooked contributor that deserves more attention.

Processed and "ultra" processed foods, high fructose corn syrup, food additives and dyes contribute to countless health issues. Many of the additives widely used in the U.S. are not legal in Europe—and they impact attention, focus, and emotional health too.
Important to Know

What to Avoid in Your Child's Diet

These foods and ingredients can negatively impact focus, emotional regulation, and overall brain function.

🏭

Processed & Ultra-Processed Foods

Anything that doesn't look like its original form

These foods are stripped of nutrients and loaded with additives that can affect brain function and behavior.

🌽

High Fructose Corn Syrup

Read ingredient lists carefully

HFCS causes rapid blood sugar spikes and crashes, making it harder for children to calm their emotions and attention.

🎨

Artificial Food Dyes

Especially Red #40 and synthetic colors

Studies link artificial dyes to hyperactivity and attention problems in children. Many of these dyes are banned in Europe.

🧈

"Low Fat" Products

Often hide ultra-processed additives

When fat is removed, it is usually replaced with HFCS or chemical stabilizers that are worse for health.

🥤

Sweetened Beverages

Sodas, sports drinks, even fruit juices

These drinks cause insulin levels to soar and crash, making it harder for kids to control their emotions and focus.

Long Ingredient Lists

If you can't pronounce it, skip it

Complex chemical names often indicate artificial additives and preservatives that do not belong in a healthy diet.

Read labels carefully. Cheese doesn't come from a can! Anything that has "high fructose corn syrup" or something similar toward the top of the ingredient list should be put back on the shelf. These chemicals that are making the American population sick are also making our children not function at their best.

The Power of Wholesome Foods

Protein from meats, eggs, beans and whole grains together, tofu, and hummus will nourish your child, fuel their body, and maintain even blood sugar levels.

Fruits and vegetables (not their juices) have natural fibers that slow down digestion and promote a balanced microbiome in the gut. Research increasingly shows that the gut microbiome can influence not just long-term disease risk but also mood and anxiety levels.

Healthy fats from nuts, fish, and even dairy in moderate amounts are essential for brain development, especially Omega-3s. Fats also slow down digestion, allowing carbohydrates to be absorbed more slowly for sustained energy.

Emerging research shows the microbiome influences mood and behavior.

Healthy fats, especially Omega fatty acids, are crucial for brain development. Several well-constructed studies show that supplementing with specific Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA to DHA in a 2:1 or higher ratio) can help improve emotional regulation and focus in children.

Similarly, supplementing with vitamin D3, magnesium, and zinc—the calming electrolytes—supports attention, focus, and sleep. Relying on well-designed prospective studies helps take the guesswork out of providing optimal nutrition for your children.
